Tranmere story
David Fairclough is a Liverpool-born former striker, known as “Super Sub” for his decisive substitute appearances during Liverpool’s successful 1970s and early-1980s sides. He won four league titles, two European Cups, the UEFA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup with Liverpool.
After leaving Anfield, Fairclough played in Switzerland and Belgium before representing Tranmere Rovers in 1989–90. He later joined Wigan Athletic.
